Ricky grew up learning the value of hard work and overcoming disabilities by working in his early years on the family farm with his deaf and mute grandparents. He noticed the limited career options that they had, even though both were high school graduates. Ricky joined the USMC at 17 and served as a Military Police officer for four years before returning to Horry County and using his GI Bill to attend and graduate Horry Georgetown Technical College. He is a cancer survivor and is currently working as a Business Services in Columbia SC. His youngest son, Clay, who is on the Autism Spectrum, is about to complete High School. Ricky's strong sense of community and his concern for the options that his son and others like him would have after graduation are what drove him to Co-Found Buck Creek Foundation.
